London, UK August 2010

London is one of my favorite cities.  I spent a semester abroad here when I was 18 and it holds a special place in my heart.  I was thrilled that Tom and I could pass through here on our way to Turkey.

Most of the week was spent in meetings with UK-based gap year organizations.  I met with directors and representatives from six outstanding companies that send volunteers all over the world.  I feel it is important to speak regularly with my colleagues to learn about new programs on the horizon and to hear about changes within the organizations.  Many of these people I’d previously only engaged with on the phone, so this was a delightful opportunity to meet in-person.

When I wasn’t in meetings, Tom and I toured the city, visiting the British Museum, National Gallery and the Tate.  We also caught Billy Elliot in the West End.  There is no end to cultured activities in London!
