Electing to take a gap year is an exciting decision. At EnRoute, we pride ourselves in understanding the complicated process of planning and successfully executing a gap year. Each consultation is unique and personalized based on the student’s individual objectives. Julia limits the number of students she works with every year to ensure every EnRoute family gets individualized attention. When a student works with EnRoute, they aren’t just a client, they are a valued individual whose success we deeply care about.

Every potential client family is entitled to a free introductory conversation. This dialogue offers you an opportunity to get to know our process and brainstorm about the possibilities of gap time.

To set up an introductory conversation, fill out our online questionnaire and we will be in touch to book a time.

Dedicated Gap Year Counseling

EnRoute is able to contract with your school to provide support directly to your students who choose to take a gap year. We offer various packages that offer group or one-on-one guidance to supplement your existing guidance and career services.

EnRoute EDU

EnRoute EDU is a self-guided online course designed for public and private school counselors, educators and youth mentors who understand the potential of the gap year and want to develop a well-rounded knowledge of this increasingly popular path. The information in this course will empower you to recommend the gap year option to your students with confidence. This course is accredited by Colorado State University, which unlocks your ability to earn CEUs and access professional development funds to participate.

FOR PROGRAMS & ORGANIZATONS

EnRoute is able to contract with your organization to provide support directly to your students who require assistance in future planning. If your program only extends for part of a student’s Gap Year, we can help them build on the successes of your program for their remaining gap time. This is a huge value add for programs, since students often find themselves without a plan for the second half of their year following a structured fall program. EnRoute services include goal setting, life coaching, program matching and itinerary design.

Check out the following case studies!

Case Study | Travel Access Project

Travel Access Project offers grants to creative people planning independent gap years for the purpose of combining education and adventure. As they launched this exciting new initiative, their team “tapped” Julia for her expertise in travel advising this age group. Julia worked individually with the grant recipients to help them clarify how they were going to use their grant and helped them prepare for their adventures.

In subsequent years, EnRoute has offered an advising-specific grant to a TAP applicant that demonstrates an interest in receiving mentorship and advising support during the planning and implementation of their gap time.

Case Study | Outward Bound

EnRoute and Outward Bound teamed up for the Maine Leadership and Service Semester, which takes place in the fall. EnRoute Director Julia Rogers works remotely and in-person with each semester student to plan the second half of their gap time. Past participants have gone on to teach in Guatemala, volunteer with monks in Laos and intern in North Carolina. This partnership ensures that each Outward Bound student continues to maximize the potential of their Gap Year by participating in additional enriching experiences outside of the Outward Bound program.

Program Design

Are you a governmental agency, non-profit or school system looking to design your own gap year program? EnRoute can provide expert advice on best practices, market insight and other resources to upstarts who want to develop a great opportunity for young people.
